VVMF Announces 2021 The Wall That Heals Tour Schedule Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica Wall and Mobile Education Center spreads healing legacy of The Wall and educates about the impact of the Vietnam War New Bern, NC April 8 – 11
Oliver North will be speaking at The Wall That Heals Closing Ceremony on the 11th at 1:00 PM.
North served as a platoon commander during the Vietnam War, where during his combat service, he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal with Combat V, and two Purple Heart medals.
At the time of his being awarded the Silver Star, North was a platoon commander leading his Marines in Operation Virginia Ridge. He led a counter-assault against the People’s Army of Vietnam, as his platoon took on heavy machine gun fire and rocket propelled grenades. Throughout the battle, North displayed “courage, dynamic leadership and unwavering dedication to duty in the face of grave personal danger.”
The Wall Volunteers Needed
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is coming to New Bern. It will be open to the public April 8 – 11, 2021 in Lawson Creek Park 24 hours a day. We need volunteers to act as ambassadors, parking attendants, help with volunteer check-in and do other odd jobs and run errands. Please join us and help make this an event to remember. Sign up for one or more shifts by clicking on the link below and you will be contacted by a member of the Committee. All volunteers should attend a training session on Wednesday, April 7th at 6:00 PM.
There are two types of Traffic and Parking Control positions available: 1. Front Gate – this position requires minimal standing and walking, 2. Traffic/Parking Control – these positions require significant standing and walking.
